Batt Knots are 1 ounce batts of fiber created by hand on my drumcarder and then twisted into small bundles that save space on shipping and storage. When you’re ready to spin them, they’ll pop open, fresh and ready.
These Batt Knots are a 70/30 blend of Alpaca from our reddish-brown boy, Sarge, and undyed Polwarth sheep wool.
Things To Know
Sarge loves to roll in dirt piles in the warm weather. Consequently, his fleece is very dusty and while it has been washed, you may find a small amount of dirt on your hands when you spin it.
How Much Do I Need?
Most of these spinning batts are sold by the ounce. So you may be wondering how much you need to buy to make something. The long answer is, "it depends." But the short guideline is this:
- 4-6 ounces for small projects like hats, mittens, gloves, and socks
- 6-8 ounces for medium projects like scarves and small shawls
- 8-12 ounces for larger projects like large shawls
- Sweaters and similar large items of varying size can take anywhere from 16 to 32 ounces
About this Alpaca
Sarge is our newest member of the herd. At just three years old, he's also the youngest. And he happens to be the tallest. And possibly even the sweetest. Basically, Sarge is everything and a bag of chips. He'll gladly take a handful of minerals from your hand, and if you're our three-year-old son, he'll run out and greet you at the gate.
